The body of a five-year-old boy, allegedly drowned by his mother, has been found in the Murray River by police divers.
‘He was so little, it was awful, the whole thing has been awful, and everyone here is devastated,’ one emergency services worker told the Riverine Herald.
‘All of us have been hit so hard.’
The mother is alleged to have taken the boy, along with his nine-year-old brother to the river to kill them.
The 27-year-old mother – who cannot be named for legal reasons – has allegedly admitted trying to drown the brtohers and has already been charged with attempted murder of the older boy, who remains in hospital in a serious condition.
A court earlier this morning heard how she is likely to be charged with more offences.
