Of course, proud mum Terri also couldn’t contain her excitement. “I am so very happy, and I know Steve would be too,” she tweeted.
While Bindi and Chandler have only just announced the news, friends, family and fans are already talking about where the couple might say ‘I do’.
With Australia Zoo in the Sunshine Coast such an important part of their relationship – and the location of the proposal – the venue could be part of their big day.
And with Bindi and Chandler both sharing special relationships with celebrities, including Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown, Australian singing sisters The Veronicas and comedian Rove McManus, the guest list will most likely be filled with big names, with the Irwins’ good friend, actor Russell Crowe, at the top of the list.
The Hollywood star was a close pal of Steve Irwin’s and shares a special friendship with Terri, so Russell may play a special role in the wedding, like offering his Coffs Harbour home as a venue or walking Bindi down the aisle.
The 55-year-old actor posted a beautiful tribute to mark Bindi’s 21st birthday and gifted her a very expensive watch.
“I do really, really think the world of him,” Terri said of her relationship with the Gladiator star earlier this year.
“He loves wildlife, he is very considerate about helping what we are doing and he is a good guy.”
Meanwhile, Bindi’s younger brother Robert, 15 – who helped Chandler with the proposal by capturing pictures of the special moment – will no doubt be a groomsman at his sister’s big day and may even get behind the camera again to take photos of the celebration.
“I am beyond happy,” Robert said on social media of Bindi’s engagement, adding he couldn’t think of
a better couple. “You are true soulmates and have always been so completely perfect for each other.”
Remembering her father, Bindi previously said in an interview: “Mum and Robert and I have talked about that a lot. We think Dad would have loved Chandler.”
