Salt has been used for thousands of years to preserve and season food. But so much more than just a condiment, salt is a valuable element in modern manufacturing and medicine. 1. WHAT DOES ‘WORTH YOUR SALT’ MEAN?

According to David Bloch’s Salt and The Evolution of Money, the word “salary” comes from the Latin word for salt because the Roman Legions were sometimes paid in salt. They say the soldiers who did their job well were, in fact, “worth their salt”.

2. WHAT IS IODISED SALT?

Most table salt has added iodine, an essential nutrient that helps to maintain a healthy thyroid. According to the Wall Street Journal’s recent article on Salts Worth Their Salt, sea salt and table salt have the same basic nutritional value, despite the fact that sea salt is often promoted as being healthier.

3. SALT OR SODIUM?
Sodium is most commonly eaten as a component of table salt, which is only partly sodium (and also the sixth most abundant element which makes it most favourable when it comes to absorption). Nurofen Zavance tablets and caplets have a unique formulation containing a sodium salt, which allows for up to 2x faster absorption than standard Nurofen for fast relief when you need it.

4. THE STAIN SAVER

A good dabbing job will clean up a wine-stained carpet, but salt will ensure there’s no leftover residue. According to Trusted Cleaner, to help get the rest out try covering the stained spot with a generous portion of table salt, which will draw the moisture in the stain out of the carpet over the next few hours.
