Followers were quick to congratulate her for sticking by her morals.
"As the current Bachelorette, you could be forgiven for living it up and being showered with freebies in a fancy marquee at the Melbourne Cup... BUT you have integrity, are saying “nup to the cup” and that is just one reason why you’re the best!" one fan said.
And Angie ensured she made her point.
“Always have and always will stay true to my beliefs,” she responded when fans praised her for not taking part in the event.
“Ain’t no fancy events swaying this girl. No horse’s life is worth free champagne and dressing up.”
Nup to the cup is a viral hashtag used on social media by those who are opposed to the cruel treatment of racehorses.
Channel Ten took over the broadcasting of Melbourne Cup this year in what is believed to be a huge $100 million deal over five years.
However, despite what may have been considered an awkward comment from the 29-year-old, Ten say they are sticking by their star.
“Angie is honest and passionate about what she believes in. She has always been candid and open — that is what we love about her,” a spokesperson told The Daily Telegraph.
