Fans of Channel 10’s The Living Room were left in tears as they watched an emotional moment between hosts Amanda Keller and Barry Du Bois on Friday’s show.
Barry is currently on leave from hosting duties on the hit show while he receives treatment for plasmacytoma myeloma, an aggressive form of cancer – the second time the TV star and builder has battled the disease – and was treated to a surprise visit from his colleague and much loved friend.
Appearing frail and emotional, Barry admitted to Amanda that it had been a tough few days for him.
I got a little infection, which happens in this situation. The chemo’s job is to take your white cells down to zero.” He revealed it’s been a struggle not seeing his twins Arabella and Bennett, especially as they started school this year.
Barry said: 'Since I found out about this - you were the one of the first people I told - I got really angry.'
Struggling to contain his emotion, the father-of-two added shakily: 'But this can't be my time... it can't be my time.
'I got myself physically fit, fitter than I've been for a long time, lost a few of those kilos that I didn't need and started this race as a favourite.'
Fighting back tears, Amanda said, “There’s so much love for you Baz, everywhere I go people say, ‘Give my love to Baz.’”
And her words couldn’t have been truer, with fans flooding social media with love and support for Barry.
TV star Grant Denyer wrote:
Meanwhile, Barry himself shared a photo of himself and Amanda following her visit.
“Best medicine you can get is a visit from a beautiful friend, @amandarosekeller dropped in for a visit & we had a great chat,” he wrote.
Barry was diagnosed with plasmacytoma - a cancer of the immune system - in 2010, and underwent successful treatment.
However, in an emotional Living Room segment in October last year, he revealed his cancer had returned as multiple myeloma - a cancer of plasma cells.
'In the medical world, I am on the exit off the freeway, there is no doubt about that,' he told the panel.
He continued: 'I have always backed myself and I will back myself on this and I will have the support to win it. I have the support of my family and my beautiful friends around me.'
