Nine Great Date Ideas
9. Staying In
Whatever and chill
Once upon a time, staying in usually meant “I’m lazy, let’s just not go out” when it came to dates. Then Netflix, take-out food, indoor air conditioning, and marathon sessions happened. Now staying in is a completely fine (and fun) way to spend a date! There are so many options; you could watch a tv series, dance together, play a video game, or even whip out the chess board to settle arguments.
8. Get Some Coffee
Get a nice buzz in all the right ways
Few things can bond people over like a good, meaningful conversation over coffee. If you two are the kind of people that like something a little quieter than a bar, a cafe is your best bet. You can swap stories, talk about your other cafe experiences, and generally enjoy a nice sip together. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even go to one of those events where they brew different kinds of coffee for you!
7. Go To The Movies
Sit back and enjoy the show
Yes, this may be a little cliche, but it still works for a reason. If you two are pressed for time or really have your eye on an upcoming release, watching a movie together is a good date idea! You can share popcorn, drinks, and opinions after watching the movie, and you might even get a few new inside jokes from the experience.
6. Browse A Bookstore
Learn what makes your partner tick
This one is for the bookworms: there are few things more delightful to them than picking out a new book to be engrossed with for the next couple of weeks. The good thing about doing this as a date is all the new ground that you’ll learn about each other. Pick a book that only the other person has read or buy two copies of the same book to read. And as a bonus, if you’re intuitive, you might pick up some neat gift ideas from your partner's interest in books.
5. Do Your Groceries Together
Two birds with one stone
We know what your thinking! But let me promise you this is a lot more fun (and ergonomic) than you think! Shopping is an activity that we all have to do, but we often do alone. The experience becomes actually quite fun if you have someone else with you. You might get to swap your favourite brands or recommend a new one to the other. You can buy snacks for each other, or even plan out new meals to eat together. Going shopping together is a great way to turn a normally lonely necessity into a fun bonding experience.
4. A Nice Long Walk In A New Place
Time for an adventure
There’s something wonderful about getting out on your own to feet and exploring new places. Going on a long walk together is a great way to let fate decide the possibilities. Maybe you might chance on a cool bar, or a fascinating restaurant, or maybe a beautiful park or piece of nature. And even if you find nothing interesting at all, you’re bonding with each other, and you’re getting great exercise!
3. Cook Something
Become master chefs one meal at a time
Here’s a chance for you to show off your domestic skills—or learn some if you’re lacking. Cooking something together is a great bonding activity.
You get to co-operate with your partner as a team. You get to find out what sort of food they like, how they operate under pressure, and what stresses them out.
To top it all off, there’s a wonderful satisfaction you get once you make a good meal. Not only because you get to eat a well-prepared dish, but you’ve proven that you work well as a team, and there’s nothing that brings a couple closer together than good teamwork.
2. Go To A Museum
Those who learn together, stay together
For those looking for something a little more thought-provoking, your local museum is always a good place to start. Most museums today are host to a number of permanent and roving exhibits that can make good conversation starters. If you’re both into a certain exhibit/artist/topic: expect a lot of ideas and opinions to swap with one another.
1. Picnics
Nothing wrong with being a little old-fashioned
In the time of Uber Eats and instant food, picnics have become a rarity for dates. And I for one, cannot begin to understand why! Picnics are an amazingly versatile date idea; you can bring a few friends, a couple of drinks and a speaker and turn it into a little party, or you can just settle down with a couple of books and your favourite snacks and just enjoy each others company.
There are no rules with a picnic; all you need is a blanket and another person and the rest is up to you!
Finally, Remember To Have Fun!
You know a date has been a good one when both of you are looking forward to the next one. Sometimes it can be something big like a trip out of town, or maybe something simple like grabbing a quick bite between work. Romance isn’t limited to occasions like Valentine’s Day. Romance is love itself, and how you express it is entirely up to you!
