Cocaine breast milk mum: Please don’t send me to prison
She snorted cocaine with her husband then breastfed her child about 12 hours later. Now the attorney for Krystin Rae Lisaius, 26, and Somchai Lisaius, 42, says jail time would be a ‘gross, gross injustice.’
‘I anticipate they will demonstrate that they have learned a very hard, embarrassing lesson and that this will become a footnote in their life, not a chapter,’ attorney Michael Piccarreta said.
The Tucson couple hosted a gathering at their house on May 14 where both Krystin and Somchai snorted coke.
The next morning Krystin breastfed her baby, who ‘became “wabbly,” had “became limp,” was “unable to wake up,” the Tuscan Weekly reports.
The couple took their daughter to Oro Valley Hospital but discharged her after refusing toxicology tests. At the second hospital, they refused more tests.
Eventually, hospital staff conducted a urinalysis on the child who tested positive for cocaine.
Initially, Krystin denied using cocaine. The New York Post says court documents show krystin later admitted to police she had and didn’t think ‘the baby would be affected after approximately 12 hours.’
Police searched the couple’s homes and found cocaine residue as well as a bag containing approximately 1.58 grams of cocaine.
Currently, Krystin’s mother has custody of the baby has been granted 24/7 contact. Somchai was granted 12 hours of contact a day, according to KAUZ.
The couple is facing child abuse charges and have pleaded not guilty.
