Actor Hugh Grant says people aren’t supposed to be faithful to one person for their whole life.
Grant spoke candidly in a recent interview implying a casual affair could be the key to a lasting marriage
‘I can see the lovely aspect if you marry exactly the right person — your best friend and it's cozy and it's lovely,’ Grant, 55, told Howard Stern, adding, 'but, people make so many mistakes.’
Grant, who has never been married, says ‘there's something unromantic about marriage.’
‘I think there's something unromantic about marriage,’ he added. ‘You're closing yourself off.’
An admirer of French and Italian marriages, Grant said they are ‘devoted’ but all have an understanding.
‘They take them [the marriage] extremely seriously, but it is understood that there might be other visitors at 5 o'clock in the afternoon,’ he told Stern.
‘You just never boast about [it]. They never say anything, but that's what keeps marriages together.’
Grant is currently dating Swedish producer Anna Eberstein. They have two children together, John, 3, and a 7-month-old daughter.
The Notting Hill actor has two other children - Tabitha, 4, and Felix, 3 – with actress Tinglan Hong.
